Monty Regular Pleskian Plesk Guru. Just a wild guess as we had a similiar issue some months ago : Do you have any other repos enabled like epel or atomic on your server? You may have to reconfigure your ClamAV configuration and specify the correct username under which the services will run.

Thanks Monty, We do have both epel and atomic installed so this could well be what's happened. They're also installed on one of our other servers though, which isn't erroring, and that got me thinking These servers are meant to be identically configured but having checked the above, I then thought to look into the cron jobs to see if you were right about them being set up with different users I figured the bash script would tell me where the config file was.

I then checked the Plesk configs and couldn't see any reference to Clam packages under either. I was expecting that Clam had been brought in via Plesk hence posting here - turns out I'm wrong about that. In fact a grep of the console history shows that we manually installed Clam some time ago, to do a scan of something, and never actually set it up to run regular scans - it's just been sitting there using up hourly cycles to bring updated definitions which is what's now failing.

Long story short, I've just removed Clam from this server. We already have virus protection for email accounts through Plesk and the websites we host are all built internally, or at least supervised internally, so it seems silly to throw more resources at virus scans anyway really. Thanks again, and sorry that this turned out to be completely unrelated to Plesk in the end!By using our site, you acknowledge that you have read and understand our Cookie PolicyPrivacy Policyand our Terms of Service.

Can't open /var/log/clamd.virtualmin in append mode

I have the last Clam engine 0. Even if I run the freshclam -v command it only returns a security warning about unsecure permission of freshclam. So my questions are : how can I know when the last update was done? Or make sure the virus database is up-to-date? First you need to understand why you get the security warning. If you post the warning here maybe we'd have a better chance to help you. This is what I do for the second part of your question: Make sure the virus database is up-to-date?

My systems are offline so cannot query the clamav site for their most recent virus definitions database but I can easily examine the date of my current cvd files with this linux command. Edit: As Jonathon has so kindly mentioned, sigtool is a great way to examine the clamav dat file signature:.

Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It only takes a minute to sign up. I have installed clamav and I want to to update the files that it uses to identify viruses:.

You don't have to run it manually because it has been run automatically and is running in the background, that's why you receive that message. The abc is the name of process which is using that file, in your case it's: freshclam. So you don't have to run it manually anymore, it's a process to avoid any conflict and having multiple instance of a same process doing same thing at the same time. If you want to make it stop and run it manually, then send a SIGTERM to its process, that gives the process a chance to finish its job and close itself cleanly, something like:.

Ravexina So no need to run it, it's automatically has been started. Ravexina no need to run what? I guess it should be the log of update process, so no harm Active Oldest Votes.

Short answer: You don't have to run it manually because it has been run automatically and is running in the background, that's why you receive that message. If you want to stop the daemon and run it manually: sudo systemctl stop clamav-freshclam.

That means freshclam which you want to run has been already ran by clamav daemons. If you want to make it stop and run it manually, then send a SIGTERM to its process, that gives the process a chance to finish its job and close itself cleanly, something like: sudo pkill -x freshclam in this case sudo may be necessary.

Apr 11, 47, 2, Hello, Check to see if you have multiple instances of ClamAV installed on the system using commands such as: Code:.

Would it be safe to say These go together: clamavAha, I think that's the problem! Hmm, it's unusual that you'd run into all that. Database updated signatures from db. The default clamd. Do you recall if any third party modules were installed recently, or if a new version of ClamAV was put on there? Well, the only repositories I can vouch for are the CentOS repositories that are enabled by default, and the Virtualmin repository. It's not that something is wrong with the other repositories, it's that packages from multiple repositories can start to conflict, and you can also end up with unusual combinations of software versions.

And during the Virtualmin installation, it sets up virtualmin. If you require a particular package from a non-default repository, that's okay -- but rather than enabling the entire repository, just pull in the one package you need from it.

I have removed clamav, rebooted, removed all Repos except the ones you recommend, reinstalled Clam av, but still will not start as previous post. Please advise. Ok, have done all that. Now I don't have a clamd in the init. If you like, I can login to your system and take a look. I would need root SSH access. That message isn't really an error. However, I thought that it should always be the latest version.

I have tried doing yum update clam and yum update clamav - but it still gives me the message. Is it because the clam on your repository is not updated? New clamav versions come out pretty often, so we don't always have the absolute latest in our repository. Skip to main content.

Hi, I am unable to start clamd. Howdy -- how are you attempting to start Clamd, are you using the init script? Also, what does your disk space look like -- you can determine that with "df -h". This could be a permissions issue. What do these two commands output: id clam id clamav. What output do you get if you run this command: rpm -qa grep clam. It looks like you may have a non-standard version of ClamAV installed there.

Anything else, and there's a risk something could go awry :- It's not that something is wrong with the other repositories, it's that packages from multiple repositories can start to conflict, and you can also end up with unusual combinations of software versions. Uninstall your current ClamAV packages Install the ClamAV packages from the Virtualmin repository If you require a particular package from a non-default repository, that's okay -- but rather than enabling the entire repository, just pull in the one package you need from it.

I can't even start clam now. This appears to be getting worse now. Please advise!! I have emailed you. But there is a clamd.
